Saturdays and Sundays Off the Hook Raw Bar and Grill in New Smyrna Beach is the place to be for reasonably priced and delicious Oysters on the Half Shell. On this visit the Oysters were from Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay and were so large and fresh they slid right out of their shells. Our friendly server Tamara, who just moved to NSB from the Bay Area of California, offered interesting conversation about the sights and restaurants in San Francisco and the Napa Valley which we love. She piled our table high with dozens of oysters served on ice with lemon and cocktail sauce. The restaurant also has great Oyster Poor Boy sandwiches and a variety of seafood offerings in sandwiches, baskets, salads and dinners. There is full bar with Drafts/ Pitchers and Coktails. There are multiple big screen TVs tuned to whatever your favorite pro or college game of the day isThe owner Mike, makes the rounds to make sure you are comfortable and having a good time! Whenever I am in NSB this restaurant is always on my list. Friendly Place with a Happy Crowd!
The oysters were delicious. We got a variety of types including the happy hour version from Texas. Be careful of the horseradish. It’s powerful! I will definitely be back. Great atmosphere and service on a holiday weekend.
Awesome find! Service was excellent and food was even better! The variety of the menu was outstanding.
The gumbo is hands down best outside New Orleans the fresh catch fresh fresh fresh. Oysters you can not compare.
Anytime we go to a restaurant at the beach, if they have fresh fish my husband will try the fish sandwich. So you could say he is a fish sandwich expert. In his opinion, the fish sandwich at Off the Hook is the best hands down. That being said, I love seafood as well and have tried various items on the menu and have yet to get a meal I am not happy with. The food is fresh and delicious and reasonably priced. They have a nice happy hour as well.
Off the Hook has a great menu with a variety of seafood, reasonable prices, a friendly & attentive staff. Love their poke entrees
The oysters there are AWESOME!! All menu items and drink specials are awesome. THE CLAM CHOWDER IS THE BEST! The ONLY thing disappointing was the Tarter Sauce. Did not taste like anything but Mayonnaise…does not work with a fish sandwich at all. Oh well, cant get everything right huh?! We will definitely be back again and again… LOVE IT! Did I say THEY HAVE THE BEST NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER I HAVE EVER TASTED, (and I have tasted a lot)!?!?!? You HAVE to get the clam chowder when your there!! Our waitress Maryanne was awesome!!! Very friendly, well informed about different oysters and which ones are good in what seasons, very enjoyable and great service!!
Friends suggested this place. When I saw the strip mall location, I was not impressed. The restaurant interior looks like a poor man’s sports bar. I was certain the food would be a disaster. I am happy to report I was dead wrong. Everything the four of us ordered was delicious. In fact, we nearly licked our plates! This is an outstanding seafood restaurant that I recommend without reservation.
This was our first visit here but not our last. Just visiting the town and had a hankering for some oysters. They were plump and very fresh. The oyster basket was also very good. Fried oysters have to be cooked perfectly to be tasty and these fit the bill. The French fries had a nice seasoning and my sample of my husband’s onion rings proved them to be good as well. Would recommend. Our server was Maryanne and she was very attentive and friendly.
New Smyrna Beach has become our home away from home when we can get away for a few days: love the city, the people, and the FOOD………OFF THE HOOK was the seafood highlight for our group as it had something delicious for each of us. Danielle was our server and she took excellent care of us with recommendations, constant personal attention, and a delightful personality. Oysters were good size, excellent taste, and served with crackers, and a variety of hot sauces. Flounder with piccata sauce and the creole boil were highly favored. When we dine out during our next trip to NSB, we plan to make OFF THE HOOK our first stop.
The Best Fish Sandwich in town. I read their menu and had to try their famous fish sandwich, it was the best I have had. I will be back to try other items on my next trip. After our lunch we had some friendly talk with some of the locals, which was a plus to our meal.
We attended Oyster Fest 2015. This was a great place to have oysters and the menu included several seafood dishes as well as American dishes. Oysters on the half shell in many varieties … All very good.
Ate dinner at the restaurant and food was delicious. Very casual place with some neat decor. The scallops were done perfectly as was the salad. Service was good and very frirndly.
Took family, 4 adults, 2 children, for lunch on Memorial Day for oysters on the half shell special. $9 a dozen for the weekend. Server Ariel took good care of us. We had some of the best raw oysters we’ve had in a long time. They were from TX and LA. They also offered oysters out of the NorthEast. Blue Point oysters and some other I can’t remember. Those were $2.50 each. Didn’t try those but sounded good. The kids had lemonade and the manage came over to tell up about the plastic cups and straws the lemonade came in….except they weren’t plastic. They were both compostable material that will break down in 2 years compared to plastic taking 1000 years. Hope everyone gets on the bandwagon and follows Off the Hooks example!!
Also had kiddie area outside for kids to paint oyster shells and make wind chimes out of them…fun
Clam chowder, gumbo and rock shrimp were what we ate and it couldn’t have been better. Very friendly staff….
On a golf trip and had dinner at the Off the Hook. We sat at the bar and Cameron was our bartender and server. She has great knowledge of the menu and how the food is prepared. She is also an excellent bartender. A very comfortable experience. Good atmosphere.
This is a wonderful property with a menu that offers many seafood selections. I had oysters, grouper bites, and six rock shrimp .. …all appetizers, but it filled me up. My husband had the largest soft shell crabs I have ever seen. He ate them up and said they were as tasty as they looked. The drinks were cold, the…
Often in restaurants the server does not have a clue what makes up a dish and cannot describe its taste. This is not true at Off the Hook, if your server is Cameron. She was very helpful in assisting us with our food selection and her knowledge of all of the selections is very impressive. The dishes she recommended were…
We were immediately greeted and seated by charming server Kelsey, who proceeded to happily and quickly take care of our every request during our Happy Hour dinner. The menu has a huge variety of fresh seafood and American favorites, all at very affordable prices. Our fantastic house salads were $5 each, a dozen oysters was $9, and a pitcher of…
EXCELLENT SERVICE. The staff liked being entertained by our grandson. Food was excellent. Racquel was excellent,
Every dish was prepared with perfection. Delicious food!!! Our waitress, Courtney, was on the ball. Great personality, & a sweet smile. Not many waitresses remember what everyone ordered but Courtney did. The Manager was very tentative as well. We will be back!!!!!
Excellent oysters. Awesome service. Danielle is a wonderful server! Great friendly atmosphere! Delicious food and drinks! The owner actually visits your table! Great happy hour specials! What’s not to like? Our first and last meals are eaten here when we visit New Smyrna Beach! We highly recommend it!
THE place for oysters and clam chowder. A decent selection of draft beers and reasonable pricing. Good fried fish sandwiches and onion rings. Prompt, friendly service and enough TV screens to satisfy most folks.
We came back to Off the Hook after enjoying it last year – it is also conveniently located en route to the beach. Enjoyed it very much and would come again. Nice local fish offerings.
Thank you Chelsea for making it a great experience. Our son is 7 years old and it means the world to us when the restaurant staff make him happy. AND you found rice for my special meal!
